Prefab Housing Green

Will prefab green homes reach Kenya?
With the housing market future in Kenya still in the balance, many people with aspirations of home ownership are turning to mobile homes or prefabs. Various beautiful designs and models are available but what makes them seriously attractive is the price. The current fashion is to incorporate as many green products as possible and to produce a Kenyan home that is super energy efficient powered by Low-E windows, solar augmentation, superior insulation, solar panels on the roof that supply most of the homes needs. Other features can include tankless water heater and a cistern that collects rainwater from the roof.
Kenyans love land ownership and the concept of the prefab build is a common practise. In fact generations of Kenyans have chosen a slow measured affordable route to home ownership rather than opting for high mortgage rates. Not all can afford the energy and environmental innovations, but technology in getting cheaper.
With the price of land in Kenya still spiralling out of control and big expensive houses looking less attractive as investments, prefab green homes may be an appropriate step onto a troubled housing market. Also with energy costs virtually certain to climb in coming years, the market for a small but stylish house that has lots of high-end amenities with a low energy bill is likely to be pretty big. For those Kenyans amongst us that can afford a weekend retreat from Nairobi to Naivasha or even as far as Mombasa a green prefab is a great conversation topic over a good red or refreshing white bottle of wine. visit www.propertyleo.com for more Kenyan Real Estate Articles
